The Plan Wheel 1000 Digital Plan Scaler is a precision measuring tool used by estimators, engineers, and contractors to measure distances on plans, drawings, and maps. By selecting the proper scale from among the 52 pre-programmed scale factors, and rolling the scaler's wheel on the plan, you can accurately measure any distance, even along curved lines.

The Plan Wheel 1000 also has COUNT and ADD buttons on the probe tip for counting items or adding constant lengths while doing take-offs.

In addition, you can connect the Plan Scaler to any IBM-compatible computer with the optional interface. In this way, you can enter take-offs directly into the computer with maximum reliability.

The Plan Scaler measures distances by sensing the rotation of the wheel. This is accomplished by passing two infrared light beams through the small holes, which are visible in the scaler wheel. As the wheel turns, the light beams are broken. The electronic circuitry counts these light pulses and calculates the distance scaled.
By using two beams, the scaler has twice the resolution as with one beam and can also determine the direction of wheel rotation.

After counting the light pulses, the scaler multiplies by the scale factor before accumulating the scaled distance. This scaled distance storage allows you to change scale factors during the take-off without changing the take-off value as happens with the real distance storage method used on some scalers.
